Boeing Starliner Spacecraft Mission

Boeing Starliner Spacecraft Mission

Latest Mission Announcement

Boeing is targeting May 19th, 2023, for the launch of its CST-100 Starliner spacecraft on a critical uncrewed flight test to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program. This mission, known as Starliner-1, will be the first flight of a Starliner spacecraft with the upgraded software and hardware that have been incorporated following the lessons learned from the Orbital Flight Test-2 (OFT-2) mission. The Starliner-1 mission is an important milestone for Boeing and NASA, as it will demonstrate the spacecraft's ability to safely and reliably transport astronauts to and from the ISS. The mission will also test the spacecraft's systems and capabilities in preparation for crewed missions to the ISS.

The Starliner spacecraft is designed to transport up to four astronauts to and from the ISS, and it can remain docked to the station for up to six months. The spacecraft is reusable, and it is designed to launch on a variety of rockets, including the Atlas V and the Vulcan Centaur. The Starliner spacecraft is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, which is a public-private partnership between NASA and the commercial aerospace industry. The goal of the Commercial Crew Program is to develop and operate safe, reliable, and cost-effective commercial transportation systems for crew and cargo transportation to and from the ISS.

Mission Overview

The Starliner spacecraft will be launched on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch is scheduled for May 19th, 2023, at 1:20 p.m. EDT. Following launch, the Starliner spacecraft will conduct a series of maneuvers to reach the ISS. The spacecraft is expected to dock with the ISS on May 20th, 2023.

The Starliner spacecraft will remain docked to the ISS for approximately five months. During this time, the spacecraft will be used to transport cargo and supplies to and from the ISS, and it will also be used to conduct a series of tests and experiments. The Starliner spacecraft is scheduled to undock from the ISS on October 10th, 2023, and it is expected to land at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico on October 11th, 2023.
